黃鶴樓以千古名樓作為品牌名稱，將南洋兄弟煙草公司1916的歷史嫁接到黃鶴樓品牌上，并演繹成傳奇故事，從中可以看出黃鶴樓品牌打造者的想象力和創(chuàng)造力。這就賦予了1916上百年的品牌歷史，使之一出世即擁有悠久的歷史和東情西韻的血緣身世，文化基調(diào)可謂非常豐富。
歷經(jīng)滄桑1937年，因抗日戰(zhàn)爭爆發(fā)，“黃鶴樓”牌卷煙停產(chǎn);
1983年，“黃鶴樓”牌卷煙恢復生產(chǎn);
1996年，“黃鶴樓”品牌卷煙全新上市，成為武煙集團重點發(fā)展的高檔卷煙品牌。黃鶴樓品牌香煙得名于江南三大名樓之一的湖北省武漢市長江南岸蛇山峰嶺之上的黃鶴樓。黃鶴樓品牌始創(chuàng)于20世紀30年代，是湖北省名優(yōu)煙之一。
1995年，黃鶴樓品牌全新上市
2004年推出黃鶴樓1916產(chǎn)品。其品牌從此迅速崛起，成為與中華、玉溪、芙蓉王等齊名的中國高檔卷煙品牌之一。
“黃鶴樓1916”煙標是由國內(nèi)著名設計師、申奧標志設計者陳紹華設計的。它采用棕黃色的懷舊色調(diào)，將傳統(tǒng)紋飾點綴在煙標周圍，將展翅的黃鶴分布于四角，將極富荊楚韻味的裝飾線條描繪于品牌名稱之下，渲染了“黃鶴樓”象征的千年荊楚文化。煙標設計中還納入了簡氏兄弟頭像這一元素，既暗示了湖北卷煙工業(yè)的民族淵源，也從細節(jié)上增加了“1916”這一概念的歷史感。
